Sheet Metal Design
Problem: Design internal heatsink components for a light fixture such that it can operate in high ambient environments while keepng critical internal components within their lifetime temperatures.
Action:
-
Basic iterations used to understand the thermal dissipation patterns
-
Captured using thermocouples and forward looking infrared radiometer (FLIR)
-
-
Models shown below were designed in SolidWorks and prototyped using in-house sheet metal operations
-
The fixture was thermally tested to find the optimal material, material thickness, additional heatsinks, lens types, and arrangement of components
-
Adjusted heatsink design based off of data found at high ambient temperature thermal tests.
Result: After more iterations, the designs were made to specifications out of house and thermal testing continued
